Our Program and Approach
At KU Greenwood, we view each child as an individual with unique abilities and interests. We aim to create an environment where children feel a strong sense of belonging and trust, where they are able to learn, grow and reach their full potential.
We believe that children learn through play, by actively exploring their environment via a range of developmentally appropriate, multi-sensory experiences within a positive, safe, fun, flexible and stimulating learning environment.
Our program offers children the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of learning experiences and activities, each specifically designed to promote children’s confidence as capable, active participants in their own learning. Children are presented with a range of activities including gardening, arts and crafts, music and movement, physical play, block building, sand and water play, science experiments, early numeracy activities such as counting and measurement, and early literacy activities such as reading, drawing and writing.
Our educators are positive role models and support children’s learning through the use of structured, non-structured and spontaneous learning opportunities. Our educators are committed to ensuring children build secure and strong relationships with carers, as well as having positive and open relationships with families.
At KU Greenwood, we are proud of our reputation within the local community of providing rich education and care that concentrates on individual children in a family-focussed and supportive way.
We greatly value the strong relationships between our staff, children and families, and we look forward to the opportunity of including your family in the life of our centre.
Our Quality
Our centre has been independently assessed by the Department of Education NSW under the National Quality Standards, and are proud to be rated as Exceeding the National Quality Standard.
However what matters most is what our families think...
“KU Greenwood is everything we could hope for in a childcare centre. The staff are friendly and caring, the program is varied and highly responsive to the children’s interests. Our two children have made some lovely friends and we value the sense of community created by the centre.” – KU Greenwood parent
“We have had children at this centre for over five years (and still going). We have been really happy with the care our children have received. They have developed wonderful bonds with their carers. The carers offer a good variety of activities to engage and stimulate the kids, based on their current interests. We're really happy here.” – KU Greenwood parent
Our Environment
Each KU centre is unique. The best outcomes for children are created within relationships and interactions between children and staff, and children and their families, not within four walls. We work hard to create beautiful, interesting, homelike learning environments for children – whatever our setting.
KU Greenwood is located on top of the Greenwood Plaza. Our playground is our outdoor learning environment and includes natural elements such as sand, grass, water, mud, leaves and twigs and kitchen gardens. Wherever possible we avoid using lots of fixed, plastic equipment in our playground. Instead we provide an ever-changing array of challenging and interesting activities and equipment, explored by children and educators together.
These activities help with the development of children’s gross motor skills, enhancing their overall health and wellbeing as they discover their strengths and abilities and feel inspired to create, imagine and play.
Our Awards
In 2016, KU Greenwood was recognised as being one of the best early childhood services on the North Shore by the Local Business Awards, after being named the Most Outstanding Child Care Service at the 2016 North Shore Local Business Awards. This was the second time the centre had won the award, after previously winning the award in 2014.
In 2014, KU Greenwood was also named the Business of the Year at the North Shore Local Business Awards.
Our Reconciliation Action Plan
KU was proud to launch its inaugural Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in 2016. At KU Greenwood, we began our journey to develop our centre’s RAP in 2018 and we are proud to present it here.
