Our Program and Approach
At our centre childhood is celebrated. When they play and explore, children's imagination and curiosity is sparked – they enjoy learning, and are inspired to continue learning more.
At KU South Turramurra, we believe that children are resourceful, competent learners who are curious about the world and contribute to their own learning. Our child focused and inclusive play-based program is reflective of the children’s needs, strengths, interests and skills and incorporates the Practices, Principles and Outcomes of the Early Years Learning Framework.
Our welcoming and supportive environment provides a range of thoughtful, interesting and inviting resources and experiences that encourage children to develop positive dispositions to learning that will prepare them for school, such as curiosity, confidence, creativity, enthusiasm, imagination, persistence and reflexivity.
Our program is reflective of the children’s interests and needs. A range of activities are provided, including creative art and craft, playdough, construction, dramatic play, puzzles, music experiences and book corner. In addition, our wonderful natural outdoor area, with a great sandpit, provides opportunities for gross motor development and enables children to engage with natural resources and materials.
We aim to establish immediate rapport and a sense of belonging in our community, as families arrive through the front door.

Our Special Interest
In addition to the high quality well-rounded programs we offer, all KU centres are also encouraged to develop an area of interest.
At KU South Turramurra our special interest is engaging with our local community.
We incorporate this into our program through activities such as regular outings to the local shops, parks, ovals and Turramurra public school. We often invite the local community into the preschool. We greet and collect the mail from the postman, talk to the people walking their dogs and wave to the school children walking past.
We feel that the children benefit from this interest because as they make connections with the world outside of preschool, they begin the understand their place in the world and how society works.
Our Quality
Our centre has been independently assessed by the Department of Education NSW under the National Quality Standards, and are proud to be rated as Meeting the National Quality Standard.

Our Environment
Each KU centre is unique. The best outcomes for children are created within relationships and interactions between children and staff, and children and their families, not within four walls. We work hard to create beautiful, interesting, homelike learning environments for children – whatever our setting.
Our playground is designed to allow children to explore nature and discover the natural environment. We want children to be able to dig in the mud, climb trees, discover and learn about insects and enjoy connecting with nature. The many activities we offer enable children to immerse themselves in the natural elements of their surroundings and feel inspired to create, imagine and play.
Our Reconciliation Action Plan
KU was proud to launch its inaugural Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in 2016. At KU South Turramurra, we began our journey to develop our centre’s RAP in 2018 and we are proud to launch it now. Please view it here.
