Our Program and Approach

At KU Starting Points Macarthur, we provide early intervention and support to families who have young children (0–8 years) with disabilities or developmental delays in the Macarthur Area. Our professional team works with you and your child to achieve the goals and outcomes you have for your child. We are an approved NDIS service provider.

We are able to help your child communicate, learn, move and play; support your child’s school, early childhood centre and community settings to support their meaningful participation; and assist during transition times in your child and family’s life, such as into educational and community settings.

In consultation with you and your child’s therapists, we provide specific play experiences that are suitable for your child’s individual needs. We view your family as a valued member of our team.

Our services and programs include:

  • Specialised early childhood intervention groups for children aged 0–6 years and their families, with a minimum block of 10 weeks.
  • Early intervention preschool for 2-5 year olds operating two mornings per week.
  • Specialised individual therapy and assessments for children aged 0–8 years and their families. For example, our Speech Pathologist will provide specific support in the development of communication skills, and our Occupational Therapist will provide advice on motor planning and sensory integration needs.
  • Transdisciplinary early childhood intervention provided by a Key Worker. This involves a team of professionals who work together to evaluate, plan and implement services for your child, with one professional acting as a Key Worker.

Families may use their child's National Disability Insurance Scheme funding if their child is eligible, for any of the services provided by KU Starting Points. The KU Starting Points team can provide families with information about how to access the NDIS and develop goals for your child. For more information on NDIS please see www.ndis.gov.au

Our Quality

We are very proud of the support services and programs we offer, however what matters most is what our families think....

“Very grateful for all the support and guidance we receive from KU Starting Points Macarthur. I cannot thank them enough for helping my child achieve their goals.” - KU Starting Points Macarthur parent

Our Environment

Each KU centre is unique. The best outcomes for children are created within relationships and interactions between children and staff, and children and their families, not within four walls. We work hard to create beautiful, interesting, homelike learning environments for children – whatever our setting.

Our Specialised Early Intervention Family Program is run from a secure and welcoming community-based hall situated in Cobbitty. Here we provide a welcoming and interesting gathering place for families and their children to learn, play, connect with others and gain valuable support from each other and the staff team.

Key worker and therapy supports can be provided at your home, in your child's school or early childhood centre, at family day care or in a local community setting.

Our Awards

In 2016, the team at KU Starting Points Macarthur were awarded the NSW Children's Week Advocacy for Children Award, recognising their outstanding achievements in supporting children with disabilities and developmental delays.

Our Reconciliation Action Plan

KU was proud to launch its inaugural Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in 2016. At KU Starting Points Macarthur, we began our journey to develop our centre’s RAP in 2019 and we are proud to launch it now. Please view it here.

Our Team

The KU team includes three Early Childhood Teachers with special education and family support experience, a Speech Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Psychologist and Family Worker. We also have a trained ESDM therapist who works specifically with children on the Autism Spectrum.

We have an experienced and dedicated team of Child Care Educators many of whom are parents of children with disabilities and bring a wealth of knowledge and personal experience to their role.

Additionally, we work closely with other therapists, early childhood intervention services, paediatricians, and teachers and carers at your child's school or care settings.

Our team are qualified, experienced, caring and highly motivated. We believe that the positive interactions children have with our staff are the most important component of the high quality education and support we offer.
