Our Program and Approach
KU Ashmont Preschool and Family Centre delivers an integrated service model providing the best opportunity to positively respond to the needs of the community and provide additional beneficial services for children and families.
The service includes:
- A high quality preschool program for children aged 3-6 years
- A range of preschool age-specific Allied Health and NDIS services that will be rolled out over the coming months based on community needs
KU Ashmont Preschool
At our service, childhood is celebrated. When they play and explore, children's imagination and curiosity is sparked – they enjoy learning and are inspired to continue learning more.
We offer a high quality program, with emphasis on the importance of relationships with children and their families. These relationships help children feel secure, which free them to explore, play and learn.
Our qualified and experienced educators are dedicated to enriching children’s learning through play-based and intentional teaching in collaboration with children, families and members of the community to ensure we have a challenging and inviting environment.
We offer children the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of learning experiences and activities, each specifically designed to promote children’s confidence as capable, active participants in their own learning.
KU Ashmont Family Centre

Our Quality
Our centre has been independently assessed by the NSW Department of Education under the National Quality Standards, and are proud to be rated as Exceeding the National Quality Standard.
However what matters most is what our families think...
"My child loves going to KU Ashmont and loves her educators and friends. She enjoys all the activities and feels very welcome. I also love how much they learn about her Aboriginal culture." – KU Ashmont Preschool Parent
"This centre has made a huge positive change in my child's attitude towards schooling. He literally loves going to 'big school' now." – KU Ashmont Preschool Parent
Our Environment
Each KU centre is unique. The best outcomes for children are created within relationships and interactions between children and staff, and children and their families, not within four walls. We work hard to create beautiful, interesting, homelike learning environments for children – whatever our setting.
KU Ashmont Preschool and Family Centre opened in 2020, following a period of renovation and rejuvenation. We recognise the need for natural and constructed environments, both indoors and outdoors, and the importance of open-ended spaces that provide opportunities for interaction, spontaneity, risk taking, exploration, discovery and connection with nature.
Our playground is designed to maximise the use of the natural environment and allow children to play and explore as they would in their own backyard. We offer stimulating activities that arouse children’s curiosity and encourage them to choose from a variety of planned experiences, expanding their learning potential.
Our Awards
The KU Ashmont Team under the leadership of Director Eileen Bach was awarded a 'Making the KU Difference for Communities' Award in 2022. The award recognised their tireless work to establish genuine and respectful relationships with the local community.
The Making the KU Difference Awards were introduced a number of years ago, as a way of acknowledging KU staff who have worked above and beyond their normal duties to make a significant contribution to KU.
