The children at Alfred Child Care Centre in Melbourne have recently been involved in a project creating face masks.
As Melbourne entered their second lockdown, the children noticed their families wearing face masks and became more curious about COVID-19.
The centre decided to offer a sewing activity, with children helping to measure, trace and cut masks, and help staff with the iron to create lines for sewing. Many children watched Maria use the sewing machine and some were keen to learn how to use the sewing machine pedal.
Families were actively involved, and the project received lots of positive feedback. By taking part, the children extended their social world and strengthened their sense of community.
