The families and educators at KU South Turramurra Preschool have worked together to design and build a beautiful new sensory creek bed.
The creek bed was created using a range of natural and recycled materials, with the new space becoming a central feature within the preschool’s large outdoor environment.
“The creek bed contains many different natural elements including water, rocks, plants and bark, as well as wooden crossings and stepping stones. The children have been enjoying playing, exploring, discovering and learning in the new space,” said KU South Turramurra Director, Laurelle Knight.
The new environment provides extended opportunities for children to engage in sensory play in nature, which supports their ongoing learning and development.
“Children learn about the world through their senses. By providing opportunities for children to interact with different shapes, materials and textures in nature, it enhances their senses and allows them to understand more about the world, themselves and others,” said Laurelle.
