How to get started at KU
Established in 1895, KU is the most experienced early childhood education provider in Australia. We’re excited that you’re thinking about enrolling your child into a KU service. We understand that knowing where to start can be confusing, so we have outlined the steps to help you along.
Start researching
When considering a childcare service, speak to friends, search online, read testimonials and online reviews, and of course take a moment to learn more about KU and what sets us apart.
At KU, we go beyond childcare. Our high-quality early childhood education services offer play-based programs led by passionate, experienced teachers and educators. We are proud to set the benchmark for quality early education—our National Quality Standard Ratings far exceed the national average.
Checklist:
- Explore our website and join KU’s Facebook and Instagram to learn more about our unique approach, values and stories.
- Look into the types of services we offer.
- Find a KU service near you.
Shortlist 2-3 services
Make a shortlist of the KU services that align with your family’s needs and preferences. Consider factors such as service type, location, hours, staff, educational program, cost, meal prep and inclusions.
Checklist:
- Read more about each service on their webpage, including their program, team, NQS rating, testimonials, and fees.
- Create a list of your top KU services, starting with 2-3 services.
Book a service tour
Visiting our services in person is the best way to get a feel for what we’re about. Book a tour at each of the KU services on your shortlist to meet the team, explore the environment, and ask any questions you may have.
Checklist:
- Book a tour from the service’s webpage, or call the service and book with the staff directly.
Join the waitlist
If you find a KU service that feels like the right fit for your family, consider joining the waitlist for the service. KU does not charge a fee to join the waitlist and you can apply online.Â
Checklist:
- Visit your chosen service’s webpage and select the ‘Apply now’ button.
- Complete and submit the waitlist application form. For assistance, speak to the service team.
- After submitting you will receive two emails. A confirmation upon joining the waitlist and also an email to set up your KU Xap account (KU’s childcare management system). It is important to set up your account so you can receive your enrolment invitation.Â
Enrol your child
The service will contact you when it gets closer to your start date to invite you to enrol your child. At KU, your invite will come via your KU Xap account.
Checklist:
- Check all notifications from your KU Xap account.
- When you receive your enrolment invite, review your selected days and complete the enrolment form.
- You will then be invited to a personalised orientation to help you comfortably transition into the service community.
- If you have any questions, promptly contact the service.
Preparing for the first day
As your child’s first day at KU approaches, take some time to prepare them for this exciting new chapter. Pack their bag with any necessary items, talk to them about what to expect, and support them to settle in.
Checklist:
- Read your service’s family handbook provided to you by your KU service to know what to bring and any other essential information to prepare for the first day.Â
Get involved with the KU community
At KU, we believe in building connections and working together. There are many ways for you to get involved, whether it’s participating in service events and activities, joining the Parent Advisory Group, following KU on social media, or becoming a KU Member. Joining our community is an excellent opportunity to meet other families and be part of your child’s learning journey.
Checklist:
- Take part in family events and activities.
- Connect with other families and staff at your service.
