The children at KU Westmead Preschool have visited the residents at Bolton Clarke Cabrini, a local aged care facility, as part of their celebrations for Harmony Day.
“The children performed a number of songs for the residents and had the opportunity to meet and speak with many of them. One of the highlights for the children was meeting Tom who was 101 years old,” said KU Westmead Acting Director, Ann Cramer.
“We have been visiting the aged care facility over the last few years and allowing the children and residents to spend time together has been a really valuable and rewarding experience for all of us.”
The visit was organised as part of the preschool’s celebrations for Harmony Day which takes place on 21 March each year. The day is an opportunity to celebrate Australia’s cultural diversity and is about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
“It was lovely to see some of the oldest and youngest members of our community come together and share their time, stories and experiences with each other.”
“The children dressed in clothes that are traditional to their cultural backgrounds and there was a real sense of diversity and inclusion while we were developing meaningful connections with our local community, which is what Harmony Day is all about,” said Ann.
