In celebration of Mother’s Day this weekend, KU Macquarie Fields Preschool has held a Mother’s Day picnic with children, families and staff from the centre.

The preschool invited mothers, grandmothers and significant others to join the children for their picnic lunch, before the guests read stories to the children in the garden.

“It was lovely having our children and families come together to recognise and celebrate the important role that mothers and other loved ones play in the lives of children and the wider community,” said KU Macquarie Fields Director, Jackie Staudinger.

As the preschool has a large number of families from culturally diverse backgrounds, the event also provided an opportunity for the centre to celebrate culture.

“We had Aboriginal performer Matthew Doyle visit us in the morning to give the children a taste of Aboriginal culture through music and dance, and in the afternoon some of the mothers read stories to the children in their first languages, with some even dressing in traditional clothes for the event,” said Jackie.

“Spending quality time together as a preschool community and sharing our cultures and values with each another has allowed us to develop a real sense of community, understanding and connectedness.”
